Assessment Process

Assessment Process

The Maintenance Welder Competency is not assessed using a simple pass/fail criteria as is normally used for determining compliance to a standard. There are mandatory elements that the Welder must demonstrate, such as safe work practices and process proficiency.

However, whether a Welder passes is mostly determined by a total score that is based on the overall marking and weighting assigned to the various elements. In this way, a pragmatic approach can be adopted for determining the overall competency of a Welder, rather than strict pass/fail criteria.

A formal Certificate and a sticker with the competency level will be supplied on successful completion

A total of 4 macros will be cut, polished and etched.

One of the macros requires 5 Vickers Hardness traverses to be done through the HAZ of the welds

Sport hardness checks are required on the other 3 macros to find the peak hardness
