Mine Site or Asset Manager

Asset Management of mining equipment for cracking inspections and weld repair planning and management

Weld repairs of cracking may be carried out by site employees, or by contractor companies.

The MWC may either be specified in full, or recognised as an equivalent if a site has an in-house procedure for welder competency.  Direct adoption of the MWC means you are able to immediately reap the benefits of the years of development that have gone into the MWC to make it a world-class program.  Furthermore, having MWC manage the program saves time, money and resources compared to attempting to do it all in-house.

MWC will provide all necessary documentation for no outlay and will work with you to update site procedures and standards as needed. Sites also are provided with full use of the MWC Portal for management of their FTE's and contractors.

The process for adoption and implementation of the MWC for asset management on site is straight forward - call us to discuss further or get started.

How do I Implement the MWC?

If you are using contractors that already have the MWC, then from a maintenance perspective it can be as simple as incorporating the MWC competency levels into the repair management process. WQMS can provide simple training materials and technical support for this.

The next step is to make the MWC a requirement for all welders carrying out equipment maintenance. This could be managed just using the MWC Portal if desired, rather than updating site induction management systems.

However, we recommend that the welder competency requirements be specified in the site TNA to ensure that all welders meet site entry requirements based on their MWC Competency Level.

The MWC may be quickly phased in for maintenance management while welders are still completing the full MWC microcredential. Prior to completing the final assessment, welders are issued a "Provisional" competency status so that from a maintenance management perspective the system can quickly be fully functional. Otherwise there may be a long period where some welders have completed their competency assessment and some haven't which makes it very difficult for planners and maintenance supervisors to manage repairs.

MWC is an alternate pathway for GCAA Welder Competency.

As per the GCAA Welder Competency Procedure, GCAA sites may use the MWC as their preferred method for Welder Competency training and assessment of FTE's and Contractors.

In fact, there are many potential benefits from using the MWC as the preferred pathway over the GCAA Welder Competency procedure - particularly when it comes to crack repair effectiveness due to the MWC being based on fully simulated repairs. Also, by choosing the MWC you are supporting our mission of supporting the mining industry to address the issues around VET, VoC, Skills Gap, repair management and repair effectiveness.

How does it work?

WQMS acts as the certifying body for issue of the Mining Welder Competency level. MWC provides a set content and program structure for a welder to complete their competency training and assessment.
